There is an old adage that says “If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail”. In the world of small business, planning is not only valuable, but essential. You must always keep your business moving toward some set of goals and objectives. Effective planning defines the steps that will be taken to attain those targets.

Basic to all small business planning is the “Business Plan”. This is a long term view of every element of your business, including its structure, organization, resources, operations, tactics, financial projections, and more. No two business plans are the same, each one is specific to the business it defines. There are many publications and programs available on the market today that will allow you to develop your own plan. However, with the guidance and assistance of a consultant with planning experience, the time it takes to develop the business plan can be significantly reduced with the assurance that it will provide a sound base for all your business operations and decisions.

Tactical -
Within the scope of the business plan are a set of activities that will require implementation over a short period of time. This short period of time is one year. The strategic business plan generally provides a view of the business over the next five years; the tactical plan provides a more detailed view of the activities to be executed during the next year. Having this type of plan provides a well documented operational view of the tasks to be performed in support of the strategic business plan.
